These are some of the questions we hear the most…

Yes. First, the finished PTFE surface must go through a process that involves chemicals called “etching.” The etched PTFE will have a brown appearance and the etched side can then be subjected to an adhesive and will stick.

Virgin PTFE is unused original state PTFE resin while Repro/Mechanical grade PTFE has been recycled. The virgin material has better physical properties and is FDA approved. Repro/Mechanical grade PTFE are typically used to make PTFE sheets and extruded rods. PTFE Industries can use repro or virgin for all applications depending on customer demands.

PTFE Industries maintains adequate supplies of resins to ensure that we will always be able to serve our customer’s needs. We mold and machine in-house and our lead times range from 1-4 weeks depending on the product and overall demand.

As a chemically inert resin, PTFE is only affected by fluorine and chlorine trifluoride and molten alkali metals at high temperatures and pressures.

PTFE Compounds are blends of PTFE resin and some other filler material like graphite, carbon, glass, etc. The filler slightly changes the characteristics and performance of the blended resin. These compounds are made to customer spec often based on machine part drawing callouts.
